Darryl Edwards is a former investment banking technologist turned movement coach and author. He is the founder of the Primal Play Method and a physical activity, health and play researcher. He is the author of the #1 best selling book Animal Moves.
Darryl begins our conversation by talking about his health challenges in his previous career in Investment Banking Technology. He then talks about the transformative power of movement in his life.
Many people complain that there aren’t enough hours in the day for movement. That is exactly why Darryl created his concept of movement snacks: “We should be engaging in frequent bouts of physical activity and we should be reducing the time spent being sedentary.”
The beauty of this movement is that it can be done anywhere and everywhere. Darryl explains: “Whatever environment I’m in is the best gymnasium.” He goes further: “The best equipment we own is our own human bodies.”
Next, Darryl talks about how play factors into his movement program: “I’ve re-engaged my inner child, I’ve realized the importance of play.”
For anyone struggling with mental health challenges, Darryl offers some simple tips. He says that according to Hippocrates, the founding father of modern medicine, if you are in a bad mood, go for a walk. If you are still in a bad mood, go for another walk. Movement has proven to reduce anxiety, depression and overall resilience.
