Chuck McGee III founded Iced Viking Breathworks in 2017.  After years of training in the Wim Hof Method, Chuck became a certified instructor. As the first certified instructor in Northern California, Chuck wanted to create a business that would allow him to share the Wim Hof Method and the wonderful benefits he has experienced in the practice with as many people as possible.  Chuck’s Iced Viking Breathworks offers highly tested and developed techniques for taking your mind and body to the next level.

In the beginning of our conversation, Chuck tells the story of his random encounter with a stranger at a bar that helped him to discover the power of the breath.  It was clear that the breathwork in combination with cold exposure made an instant impact on his health.  As a type 1 diabetic, he started to feel less pain and an improvement in insulin sensitivity.  Ever since this time, he became totally committed to sharing this method with as many people as possible.

Chuck says that the Wim Hof method is unique because it’s so active and dynamic.  He says it’s like 15-20 minutes of taking your breath to the gym.  Although there are many breathing programs out there, he says that the Wim Hof method is a great gateway experience for diving deeper into breathwork.

Chuck talks about the creation of his own personal breathing practice – Iced Viking Breathworks.  It evolved because he needed something to do when he wasn’t doing Wim Hof breathing.  He says that he’s incorporated many styles of breathing such as Yogic practices, the Buteyko method and even the Afghan walk.

In addition to the breathing, Chuck explains what he’s learned from the cold.  He says that the cold can teach you how to surrender into a stressful situation.  For example, these stressful moments can be your figurative ice bath.   For Chuck, the breathwork and cold therapy have improved his cardiovascular health and his insulin sensitivity.

Chuck reminds us that we often look for easy, but not optimal.  To achieve optimal health, we need to do certain practices like the breathwork and cold therapy.

The answer to our health may literally be right under our noses.  In fact, the simple act of nose breathing can have a massive impact on physical, mental and even emotional health.   On the other hand, mouth breathing negatively impacts the immune system and causes more stress on the body.

When it comes to the future, Chuck is filled with hope.  He says that the waves of change are happening with people like James Nestor, Wim Hof, Patrick McKeon and so many other breathing visionaries.

Chuck is married with three kids.  He says he just loves his tribe, and they make him feel the most alive!  He also loves to move his body, get outside and of course practice the breathwork.
